Book Development – Vision to Blueprint

Empty note book taking notes for a book
Before you write a children’s book, you need a strong foundation.

Developing your story before you start writing helps you shape the right plot, discover your voice, and understand how to best tell the story you want to tell. It also gives you the tools to write with clarity and confidence—without fear, overwhelm, or getting stuck halfway through.

In this four-week program, we’ll define the heart of your story, map out your plot, and explore the voice and structure that best fits your idea. You’ll get clear on your intended audience—from toddlers to teens—and what today’s young readers (and their gatekeepers) expect. We’ll also cover publishing standards, age-appropriate content, and how to plan your writing process around your own pace and style. Finally, we’ll explore which publishing path makes the most sense for your book.

Build and Create – 30 Day Private Coaching

Great storytelling doesn’t happen by accident—it’s built through strong characters, vivid scenes, and believable dialogue. This 30-day private coaching program is designed for fiction writers who want to elevate their craft, whether you're writing picture books, chapter books, middle grade, or YA.

This is not a book development program. Instead, we focus entirely on strengthening your writing—the part that makes readers fall in love with your story.

Over four weeks, we’ll work on what your story and writing need most, including:

  • Deepening your character development

  • Writing scenes that hold tension and move the story forward

  • Creating natural, age-appropriate dialogue

  • Honing your voice and style for your target audience

  • Identifying and improving your writing blind spots

This program is fully private and tailored to your specific goals—whether you’re revising, mid-draft, or just trying to improve your fiction writing skills. It’s open to all experience levels, and I also take on a few select adult fiction projects I feel deeply connected to.

What My Clients Say...

Sally Lotz is a published author and incredible teacher with lots of valuable tricks and tips whether you are already writing or contemplating where to start on that book idea brewing within.

This morning I finished my book, and gave myself the chance to live a life where I am free from keeping my story buried inside of me.

I can share it with pride, with honor, knowing that I completed this massive project from my heart.

There is purpose in my story and I can't wait to share it with the world.

Big thanks to Sally Lotz , the woman who fueled the accountability and support I truly needed to let these words come out of my body and into the paper.

I got to sit through Sally's mini course on how to start the process of writing your own book and O.M.G.!!! First off I just love her energy and how easy she is to talk to AND she broke all the things down to like the simplest form. It was great plus I got tons of pointers and she even had time for some open Q&A which was just a great as the learning part. You definitely have to check her out for writing your book!

Sally has an eye for catching what is and what isn’t working in my manuscript, and she does this in a humorous but kind way that I find refreshing. She's been especially helpful with identifying big picture inconsistencies with plot and characterization.
